Spanish Holidays

"Real Spain" comes a step closer

Britons heading off for holidays in spain will now be able to discover a previously little-known corner of the country with the launch of new flights to La Coruna.

Located in the north-west region of spain and said to be relatively unspoilt, La Coyuna will be linked with London Heathrow thanks to a new route which launched on March 25th through low cost carrier Clickair.

According to the airline, La Coruna, in the region of Galicia, is located in what is frequently known as "green Spain" thanks ot its temperate climate and is increasingly becoming a holiday hotspot.

The region is rich in history, tradition, culture and architecture, providing a taste of "real" Mediterranean culture and a very different Spain holiday experience.

Flights to and from La Coruna will operate daily, with one way fares starting from €48 (£33). The airline is also introducing new flights between London Gatwick and another popular Spanish holidays destination, Seville.

The authentic side of Spanish holidays

UK travellers embarking on Spanish holidays are increasingly moving past the tried-and-tested combination of sun and beaches, according to new research.

Matthew Flint, director of travel website directline-holidays.co.uk, explained that more people have been seeking out more "authentic" experiences from their travels abroad.

"The UK's favourite destination, Spain, has done much to promote its cultural and historical side, so much so that a growing number of people are turning their backs on sun, sea and sangria for a taste of the real Spain," he said.

A recent study by the Centre of Future Studies claimed that people are investing more money on life-enriching experiences.

Meanwhile, a Mintel British Lifestyles poll found that 23 per cent of Britons plan to go on a major foreign holiday in the next six months, while 22 per cent are putting together a short break.

Mr Flint recommended some Spanish holidays which could help UK tourists access the true spirit of the Mediterranean country.

He said that the Costa de la Luz offers lively cities such as Seville, Cadiz and Tarifa, while Fuereventura in the Canary Islands is a little-known treat.

Fuereventura is the Canary Island which is closest to the African coast.
